The Spanish territory has a geological structure conducive to the presence of geothermal resources in the subsoil, therefore, it is considered necessary to support the carrying out of feasibility studies, which allow the evaluation and analysis of the potential of each location. According to Ecological Transition, the promotion of these studies will be the basis for undertaking the development of the first medium and high temperature geothermal projects for electricity generation.

Source: MITECO These economic incentives will be used for the technical evaluation, analysis and quantification of the geothermal resource in a given area, including carrying out the exploratory and research actions necessary for said evaluation, as well as the economic valuation and resources necessary to carry out a project of deep geothermal energy, its opportunities and risks and, ultimately, its prospects for success.



The materialization of these facilities - the Ministry advances - will increase the supply of renewable energy and reduce energy dependence on fossil fuels in Spain, especially in the Canary Islands, a territory with important geothermal resources, according to the studies carried out to date. Regarding the hearing process, the management of the aid will be centralized by the IDAE because it is not possible to define a criterion for the pre-allocation of funds and the territorial management of these subsidies, since the existence of geothermal resources in The subsoil is not known a priori, and these are discovered, precisely, through the feasibility studies that are subsidized with this aid, so only centralized management proves suitable to achieve the desired objective.
