Healthcare in Luxembourg is based on two main principles: compulsory health insurance and free choice of medical services for patients. Medical services in Luxembourg are of a very high standard and include private medical practices, medical centers and hospitals, hospitals, patient care services, pharmacies, assistance, care facilities and home services. All medical surgeries are carried out privately. Hospitals and hospitals are public institutions.
How can I get medical care in Luxembourg
In Luxembourg, all residents have access to public healthcare. Salaried workers and self-employed workers are required to pay social security contributions to receive health services. If spam data you are employed, your health insurance contribution will be automatically deducted from your salary by your employer. Furthermore, all dependents are insured through employees who pay social security contributions. Children can get insurance from their parents and students up to 27 years of age. Those who have no income or cannot make contributions due to low income can receive basic health care paid for by the state.
To apply, you will need to contact your local social security office. People temporarily residing in Luxembourg from the EU/EEA/Switzerland can receive healthcare via the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Visitors from countries outside the EU must have private health insurance in Luxembourg.

Your social security card is proof of your Luxembourg health insurance. This card must be presented whenever you use a health service. In the Luxembourg health insurance system, all citizens have the right to choose their doctors, specialists, and hospitals.

While 99% of the population has access to public healthcare, around 75% have private health insurance.
Necessary documents
The form must be accompanied by:
- A copy of a valid ID, such as a passport; Proof of employment;
- Proof of residence status;
- A certificate of entitlement to benefits.
CCSS will review the application and send the social security card to the home address within approximately three weeks. The Luxembourg Social Security Card (Carte de Sécurité Sociale) must always be carried with you.
